As we wrap up 2024, we’re not only turning the page on another year but on a legal landscape that has kept us all on our toes – and talking. It’s a time to reflect and give a special mention to the articles that have resonated most in the news and with our clients.
This year’s top legal discourses at Gillan & Veldhuizen have, unsurprisingly, circled back to the critical theme of foresight – something we believe is foundational for resilient legal and business practices. From “Sowing seeds for the future”, where we addressed estate planning strategies for farmers and business owners, to providing guidance on one of the trickiest areas of contractual language: Indemnities. Whether entering new ventures or safeguarding personal wealth, understanding these clauses can be the difference between growth and litigation.
As relationships evolve, so do partnerships, making the case for clear and binding agreements essential. “Prenups for Partnerships” made its mark by explaining why every business relationship, like a marriage, thrives on well-defined agreements. We emphasised that in business, much like in life, proactive planning is invaluable.
Then there’s the ever-crucial topic of summons’. In “You have been served,” we dissected the correct responses when you’re on the receiving end of legal action, underscoring the importance of swift, informed action to protect rights and interests.
So on that note, here’s to a year of knowledge shared, clients empowered and seeds planted for 2025. We look forward to continuing the conversation with you in the coming year as we adapt, prepare and plan.
Wishing you a wonderful Festive Season.
Yours in law
PJ Veldhuizen
